Hi, I am Alex, the creative heart behind Alexandra Mathias Art. I am so happy you are here.

 I am from Germany and have lived and painted in beautiful Lafayette, CA, since 2016. My colorful, happy artwork is inspired by the experiences my family and I had during our "wandering years." In 14 years, we've moved to 8 different US states (coast to coast) and 4 European countries with our two children. We celebrated Midsommar in Sweden, ate sushi in Japan, and called Luxembourg and the Netherlands our home. With all the excitement of constantly settling down and then packing up again to move to another state or country, art has been my grounding constant. It has allowed me to feel at home as soon as my art supplies were unpacked, make new friends, and share a bit of me and my life story with the world.

I am self-taught through personal experimentation with different mediums, and I have taken various online and in-person creative workshops with inspiring mentors and teachers. I've documented my children's lives as a scrapbooker, spent years photographing my family, friends, and clients, and since 2017 I've shared my creative art journey through my Instagram account, alexandramathias_art. I love experimenting with new mediums and different styles. I collect art books, art supplies, and "online art classes," and I thrive on my connections with fellow artists and my collectors on social media. While trying to define my style and find my niche, I realized that there was already a red thread weaving through all my artworks: my love of vibrant colors, repetitive mark-making, abstract art, and collage. Most of my current artworks are collage grids featuring my favorite motives: houses, hearts, and organic circle shapes. My artworks are collected throughout the US, Canada, Europe, and Japan.
